It is NOT a habit

9-25-11

A moment of your time if I may or forward this to someone that might consider the idea.

I saw on the news the current half million dollar campaign to stop people from 'smoking'.  I also saw it is falling on deaf ears.

Seriously, is there somebody on staff from the tobacco industry telling you what to do?   I can't believe you continue to carry the tobacco message in the very ads you claim are to stop smoking?

What am I talking about?  You keep calling this "smoking" and the people that smoke as "smokers!"  Like it was a habit they picked up somewhere where you always do some innocuous thing that is a minor part of their daily lives.  Hello-o-o-o-o.  Habits rarely hurt anyone and only if you are the government do you spend a half a million dollars to change someones innocuous habit.  Reclassifying this terrible addiction as a habit and giving it a name that renders people attacking it as thugs has absolutely been one of the greatest hoaxes ever perpetrated on the American public, be it by accident or design.

Why don't you call Heroin addicts simply people that like a rush?  Call them rushers, what is wrong with that?  Maybe people on crack, we could call them zingers.  Now look at what we just did.  We reduced the "bad" people taking drugs in this state by 50%.  Maybe they should fire all you people and give me the job.

OK, we all know that isn't going to happen, unfortunately including the part about me getting a job but I'm trying to point out that I'll bet everybody at the Department refers to "nicotine addiction" as "smoking."  That should stop immediately and permanently.  I know the tobacco lobbyists amongst you won't want it to happen and give many reasons why not but it should happen.

You need to stop the current anti-smoking campaign, quit being a thug, leave these poor people with unfortunate habits alone and start a new campaign against addicts and addiction.  People, and I mean all people see addicts as a bad thing, something we should get off the streets, habits on the other hand, the government should keep their noses out of.

All future campaigns should be focused on addiction and drugs, despite what the lobbyists amongst you says.  People that inhale nicotine through an incendiary device are addicts.  Addicts!  Addicts!!!!!

They don't have a bad habit so quit treating it that way.  You are never going to get a ADDICT to stop a bad HABIT and reduce tobacco use,  they are two different things.

It baffles me that nicotine is officially considered a drug anywhere except in a cigarette. It just goes to show you that the lobbyists are powerful people and our congressmen are some of the weakest.  Hopefully there is somebody in the Department of Health that has the good sense to recognize that the same ol' thing that hasn't worked in the other 49 states in the last 49 years despite being upgraded with new graphic pictures, just isn't going to work.
